New Public Image, Ltd! (click here)
from the AV Club:
It’s been 20 years since John Lydon’s phenomenal, occasionally just frustrating post-punk pioneers Public Image Ltd. released an album, an interim that Lydon has spent primarily cashing in on his legacy in various ways, giving cranky interviews, and always, always insisting that he was “constantly” working on new material that would see the light someday. It looks as though that long-promised hour will finally arrive on April 21, when PiL debuts the vinyl-only EP One Drop, as part of the annual Record Store Day. You can hear the skittering, ska-inflected title track below from its recent appearance on BBC 6. Both it and the EP serve as a prelude to the first new PiL full-length in two decades, This Is PiL, which the band’s website now says is due in May or June.
The loss of Whitney Houston has been reminding me of how much I like this, the more original, version of The Greatest Love of All by George Benson. George was a jazz guitarist who became a singer, and recorded this for a film on Muhammed Ali. All that seems so fitting, and I always found his rendition, in its more humble way, to be very touching. (Though this was by no means the kind of music I was listening to in the 70s….)
Hey! Some new music! Thanks to my pal visiblemarket for this. From NPR: “Girl in a Coma is a trio of young women from San Antonio who play rock music — loud rock music — in both English and Spanish. Lead singer and songwriter Nina Diaz, 23, is the youngest member of the band. Her sister Phannie plays drums, while their longtime friend Jenn Alva slaps the bass. Girl in a Coma is signed to Blackheart Records — a label owned by rocker Joan Jett — and takes its name from the song “Girlfriend in a Coma” by The Smiths.”
The Clash - Clampdown
Love this song. It’s timely, always has been.

This came on the radio for 10 at 10, where they play ten songs from a certain year, along with “Rock This Town” by Stray Cats, “I Want Candy,” and other hits of ‘82. This was the best of the set! Though I’m pretty sure I didn’t think so at the time.
Also 1999, New Order’s Temptation, and The English Beat. Good year huh.
Bow wow wow yippee yo yippee yay.
One thing I like about plane flights…
…it’s one time I listen to my music on shuffle, and I love going from The Arcade Fire to I’m A Believer by the Monkees to Blister in the Sun to Poker Face to Justice Tonight (The Clash), to Someday, Some Way by Marshall Crenshaw. To David Archulete due to @howgay.
Didn’t even know I had Saves the Day by Atmosphere. Good, though.
