“New Morning” - Darren Criss ft. Chuck Criss

—Reblogging this because…I find D. Criss touching, and this is a beautiful song by Bob Dylan, and I love love love that shirt he’s wearing.

The Easy-Load Recorder…. 1970s cassette recorder advertisement.

I HAD THIS AND IT CHANGED MY LIFE.
It was a Sony, though, and the mic was way cooler.

The loss of Whitney Houston has been reminding me of how much I like this, the more original, version of The Greatest Love of All by George Benson. George was a jazz guitarist who became a singer, and recorded this for a film on Muhammed Ali. All that seems so fitting, and I always found his rendition, in its more humble way, to be very touching.  (Though this was by no means the kind of music I was listening to in the 70s….)

Joe Strummer!

So, Joe Strummer died nine years ago today. On my birthday. That day is commemorated in an amazing video here (sorry about the ad).

Lori and I have been to see that mural twice: Niagara Bar, 112 7th and Avenue A, NY.

That day Joe died, I picked up James in the morning. He was wearing his green Clash shirt. We went to a Clash-themed place for breakfast (yes) and they were playing, I think, London Calling, and a man in the next booth said to his son, who looked around 9—“That guy singing, he’s Joe Strummer. He died today.”

You felt like you were part of a (big) club. Still do. He’s one of my (few) heroes.

From a tribute site

“When he played at the Troubador, before he walked off the stage he said ‘It’s a sad and beautiful world! Goodnight!’

If you don’t know, find out more about him.

Work party. I didn’t win the prize though—that went to Cruella De Ville. Great part is, this is kinda how I used to dress all the time, so it was easy to pull together. That Guitar Hero guitar got heavy after a while, though.
Fishnets are fun, maybe I should wear them more often.

OMG just saw these in a fancy stationer’s window—WE HAD THESE WHEN WE WERE KIDS and now I remember how the inside would get all steamy from your breath as you trudged from house to house dragging your candy bag and you’d bite the inside of the mouth part til it was ragged and sometimes it would rain and the colors in your tissue-thin (and appropriative) gypsy costume would run and your bag would tear at the bottom and your candy would dribble out on the sidewalk and yet still you LOVED Halloween.
